The Archive - Community (and Features)

The Archive is not just a website, but also a community! The Archive serves as a gathering point for people interested in games and game development. The Archive has various features to help unite the community, and bring them together. Please browse through them!

Archive Games

Archive Games is a project to deliver downloadable games directly to users in a fast & easy to use interface.

More information can be found on the Archive Games page.

SimWorld

SimWorld is a game currently in development. Your team must compete against other teams to build your own bases and defenses, while also attacking any opposing team's base.

For more information on SimWorld, please visit this page.

Archive Tutorials

Archive Tutorials is a database of tutorials on a variety of subjects, with the primary focus being on game development.

New tutorial submissions are welcome. To learn more about Archive Tutorials, please visit this page.

IRC Chat

Many of our members chat in our own IRC server, moderated by friendly staff. The IRC room provides a nice place to chat with others. While the chat room may not have active speakers at all times of the day, you can be sure that if you wait for a while, there will probably be someone willing to answer your questions, or even just chat about the news.

For those who know about IRC, the IRC server is irc.editingarchive.com, port 6667, channel #Archive

For those who may need some help, check out this page.

We also tend to say some funny things, which we write down. See the funny quotes!

Forums

The forums is the best place to ask technical questions, or to post screenshots of your latest projects. It's also a nice place to hang out and chat.

Click here to access the forums.

DevJournals.com (Blogs)

We've also created a place for our members to post updates about themselves or their projects. This is DevJournals.com. Members frequently post updates from their personal lives, information about their latest software projects, and rants about various topics. Free image uploading is included for uploading personal shots, or screenshots. Additionally, you have vast HTML-level customization options for your journal's appearance. And to top it off, you get a nice url: http://yourusername.devjournals.com

EATV (Anime sub-section)

By a strange coincidence, many gamers are interested in anime (and vice-versa). We run an Icecast/Theora streaming media server that serves unlicensed anime. This server is freely accessable to both members and non-members (though donators do get top priority).

For more information about EATV, click here. (EATV also has Anime sub-forums for discussion and a file sub-database for AMVs and Wallpaper).

Videogame Projects

As a community of gamers and game makers, it should come as no surprise that we have several of our own video game projects available to play. These games include roleplaying games, first person shooters, puzzle games, and even massively multiplayer projects.

To check out a list of current game projects, click here. Many are in a playable form, if not entirely complete!

File Database

Often times, we need to share the games and modifications we create, so we've created the file database as a collaborative tool. Everything from map making tutorials to full games are included in the file database.

To access the file database, choose the section and subsection of the database on the left menu.

TFC Server

If there is one game the community loves, it has to be Team Fortress Classic. We have a custom map server set up for the classic Half-Life modification.

For more information about the TFC server, see the Half-Life sub-forums, or connect to it at EditingArchive.com:27015

Fiction

A new project under development is Archive Fiction. In this section, we collect high quality original fiction from community members and post it on the site.

We'd love to add your own fiction, so please see the page for information on how you can contribute!

In Conclusion....

All of these methods provide a way for The Archive community members to meet each other or otherwise facilitate their work (or slacking for that matter). We hope you'll join our community! Feel free to browse any of the above sub-sites, or register your username now!
