Archive Newsletter Revived!

Time for the third installment of our new newsletter! It's been three months since our last newsletter, so we'll highlight the new happenings!

About The Archive

The Archive is a community website dedicated to Gaming, Game Development, and Anime. We offer many features for our community, ranging from streaming online TV (EATV), active game development projects like SimWorld, game server hosting for TFC & Quake 2, web games, file downloads, and much more. For a full list of our projects, please click here.

We expect to send out annoucements to this list somewhere between once per month to once per quarter. If you want to unsubscribe, you can [UNSUBSCRIBE], but I hope you'll revive your interest in our community instead :)

SimWorld v4.0 Released to the Public!

Today we released SimWorld v4.0 to the public! SimWorld is a strategic first person shooter, where you build your own bases and compete against other teams.

Here's a summary of the biggest new features:

New Building System: Build Catalog
SimWorld v4 features a brand new building system! One of the features of the new build system is the Build Catalog. The Build Catalog allows players to look through the available build options and get more information about each build option. The Build Catalog also supports dynamic addition and removal of buildable items so gameplay elements like research and upgrades are possible in the future.

New Building System: Object Placement
The next step of the new build system is object placement. The new Build Tool allows players to position and rotate objects in a blueprint mode before actually placing the object. This allows for much expanded control over building.
New Building System: Placement Rules
A few restrictions on building are introduced to help level gameplay: mission authors can restrict some areas as building prohibited zones. These zones do not allow any objects to be build inside of them. Additionally, players may not build within 15 meters of an enemy structure.
Jetty
SimWorld v4 introduces flying vehicle support - our first flying vehicle is the 'Jetty,' an eight passenger plane. Players can switch seats to allow one to pilot while others shoot out the windows.
In-game Lobby / IRC Support
Find SimWorld players easier with the new built-in lobby! The lobby connects to our IRC server, and allows players to chat with each other before entering a specific game. Additionally, by joining our IRC server with your favorite IRC client, you can see when others want to play SimWorld without actually keeping SimWorld open and manually refreshing the server list.
Misc. Changes
In addition, SimWorld features a few videos, a new background wallpaper, the RubyBow (a Sniper weapon) only hurting players, HotAir support for the simple menu, delayed lava damage, and bug fixes.

Download SimWorld v4.0 now and give us your feedback!

Archive's Fifth Birthday

In May, we celebrated Archive's Fifth Birthday. We've grown over the years, adding more and more projects and users to our community. Hopefully we'll continue to steadily grow over the next five years. Thanks to staff, donators, and community members!

Active users received a special Archive Item to commemorate the occasion.

EATV Update

EATV streams Anime and Gaming video direct to you! For more information on what is currently playing, see our series description page. No new series were added, but new episodes have been added to the old ones.

We added browser support so you can watch EATV in your favorite Java enabled web browser.

Read more about series airing on EATV here.

Highlighted Forum Threads

For those that don't visit the forums regularly, here are some interesting forums threads from the past few months to check out:

Highlighted File Uploads

The Archive's most popular feature is still its exhaustive file database. Here are some cool file uploads from the past month:

Random IRC Quote

We also run an IRC server and maintain a quotes database. Here's a random quote from the database:

<Sim9> Travis is in a highly argumentative mood today :P
<Travis> I am not!

In closing...

If you have comments, feedback, suggetions, or submissions for this newsletter, please post in this thread. The next issue will be out in a few months, but we hope to see you before then at The Archive! :)
