Archive Newsletter 12/09/07 - Click here to view this in your browser!
Today we bring your our fourth newsletter! It's been four months since our last newsletter, so we'll highlight the new happenings!
The Archive is a community website dedicated to Gaming, Game Development, and Anime. We offer many features for our community, ranging from streaming online TV (EATV), active game development projects like SimWorld, game server hosting for TFC & Quake 2, web games, file downloads, and much more. For a full list of our projects, please click here. We expect to send out annoucements to this list somewhere between once per month to once per quarter. If you want to unsubscribe, you can unsubscribe below, but I hope you'll revive your interest in our community instead :)
Earlier this week, we released Archive Games! Archive Games is a project to distribute games via the internet in an easy-to-use compact interface. How is Archive Games different from other game download utilities? For starters, Archive Games offers a number of free downloads. Many of the larger download utilities focus on paid titles only, but we hope to make Archive Games a location for top quality free games as well as paid titles. Furthermore, Archive Games strives to be as non-invasive as possible - you only have to run Archive Games to download and update free games, but we make it easy to launch games from our interface if you want to. We also won't auto-install to your system startup and won't spam you with ads when all you want to do is get high quality games as quickly as possible :) Download Archive Games now and give us your feedback! Special note for developers: Archive Entertainment is interested in recruiting other like-minded developers who wish to use Archive Games as a platform for distributing their creations. Archive Games makes it easy for your users to install and update games, and provides extra visibility to your titles by putting them next to others of high-quality. Archive Games can be used right now to distribute free games, and we're working on an e-commerce back-end (contact us with your requirements so we can develop towards them!). If you're interested in distributing on Archive Games, contact us (Business Inquiry) with information on your game.
On December 16th at 3PM Central, we'll be meeting up have a meet up in our TFC server! We hope to see some strong attendance there, so turn out for a good match and good times!
Insane2757 has finally posted up the results of the debate he attended earlier this year with Jack Thompson. Not only did Jack Thompson autograph an Archive Business Card, but he also autographed a printed article stating video games do not cause violence in children. Ironic, no? It appears he also signed the article, "To Jake - It takes a village Idiot to raise a generation of children + I am that Idiot!"
We've got a new feature for our donators! If you are a donator, you may customize your forums profile with HTML via your logged in page on the main site (uses the same handy WYSIWYG editor on DevJournals). Check out mine for a (very) random example. I also added links to your Archive Item inventory and main site page there for all users. More info in this news thread. (PS, this works for even a donation of a $1, so head over to the donation information page and learn about some bonus features donators get -- along with helping out The Archive :)
EATV streams Anime and Gaming video direct to you! For more information on what is currently playing, see our series description page. Here's the new content:
In addition to the above new series, we're also airing AMVHell4! Read more about series airing on EATV here.
For those that don't visit the forums regularly, here are some interesting forums threads from the past few months to check out:
To reward activity in the forums, I gave out free Archive Items to the top 10 posters. Expect more of these sorts of surprise rewards in the future - so be active on the forums! :)
The Archive's most popular feature is still its exhaustive file database. Here are some cool file uploads from the past month:
Over at Archive Fiction, Insane2757 indicates that more fiction is coming soon. To help him out with that, send in your fiction! Submissions are very encouraged!
We also run an IRC server and maintain a quotes database. Here's a random quote from the database: * Doughnut kills Sim9
If you have comments, feedback, suggetions, or submissions for this newsletter, please post in this thread. The next issue will be out in a few months, but we hope to see you before then at The Archive! :) |
